A View Worth Returning To

A stay at the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel, Copenhagen puts you close to Copenhagen Central Station and Tivoli Gardens.

For me, though, the view completes the arrival.

From a Collection Superior Room – Tivoli View, the gardens stretch below in a changing scene of rooftops, trees and evening lights.

Arne Jacobsen designed the hotel, and his influence still shapes its interiors. Yet the detail I remember most is much simpler: waking up above the city and looking across Tivoli.

I could become used to that.

The hotel still offers a dedicated Tivoli-view room category. It makes an ideal base for a visit built around long summer evenings and Copenhagen after dark.

Where the City Meets the Water

Copenhagen rewards a slower pace.

Have coffee without watching the clock. Cycle beside the harbour. Stop for a swim. Let lunch become the afternoon.

At Islands Brygge, the harbour feels like part of the neighbourhood rather than a backdrop. Swimmers enter the water with the skyline ahead of them. Nearby lawns and waterfront spaces invite people to sit, talk and stay a little longer.

That ease is one of the reasons Copenhagen feels so liveable.

Refshaleøen Before Dark

The mood shifts as you head towards Refshaleøen.

The former shipyard now brings together food, creativity, workshops, cultural spaces and festivals. Its industrial character remains visible, which gives the area an energy that feels rawer than central Copenhagen.

At Reffen, street-food kitchens, bars, artisans and music sit alongside harbour views. Arrive hungry. Choose whatever catches your attention. Stay longer than planned.

Nearby, La Banchina offers something quieter. The small waterside restaurant, café and wine bar feels intimate and relaxed. It is the sort of place that encourages you to slow down rather than move on.

Places like these make Copenhagen feel less like somewhere you visit for a weekend and more like a life you could step into.

A Table Worth Returning To

For dinner, Marv & Ben remains one of my Copenhagen favourites.

Set on Snaregade, it strikes a balance I always appreciate. The food feels creative and considered, but the restaurant never becomes overly formal.

There is warmth in the room. The evening feels personal. Dinner becomes something to enjoy rather than something to work through.

It is exactly the kind of restaurant I look forward to returning to whenever I am in the city.

Cocktails at Ruby

From dinner, the evening can continue at Ruby, another personal favourite.

Ruby sits inside a historic townhouse on Nybrogade and has long held a place in Copenhagen’s cocktail scene.

Inside, the mood feels elegant but relaxed. Soft lighting, attentive service and well-made cocktails do most of the talking.

Ruby captures something I love about Copenhagen after dark. It feels polished without feeling stiff. You might arrive for one drink and suddenly realise the rest of the evening no longer matters quite so much.

Electronic Nights in the Woods

From 27 to 29 August 2026, Karrusel returns to Refshaleøen for three nights of electronic music.

The setting gives the festival much of its character. Trees, industrial surroundings and Copenhagen’s creative energy all become part of the experience.

That is what makes Karrusel feel connected to the city rather than simply hosted within it.

A day can begin with Tivoli views. It can drift towards the harbour, move through dinner and cocktails, then finish with music beneath the trees.

Nothing feels overly planned. Yet the memories stay with you.

When One Night Becomes Another

Copenhagen’s nightlife reaches far beyond one festival.

VEGA remains one of the city’s best-known live-music venues. Culture Box takes the night further into electronic music.

For jazz, La Fontaine offers something more intimate. Its atmosphere can turn an ordinary evening into something spontaneous.

That is Copenhagen after dark.

Considered, but never stiff. Stylish, but still free.

The pace changes. The city does not.

Copenhagen always leaves me thinking beyond the next visit.

I would return for the long evenings, the water, the food and the music. But I would also return for something far more ordinary: the possibility of waking up there on a normal morning.

Perhaps that is the sign of a destination that truly stays with you. It makes you imagine another way of living.
