One of the standout features of Malmaison Manchester is its prime location. Situated on Piccadilly, it provides easy access to some of Manchester’s most iconic landmarks and attractions. Whether you’re here for a concert at Manchester Arena or exploring the vibrant Northern Quarter, everything is close by. Everything seems just a stone’s throw away. For music enthusiasts like myself, being close to Manchester Arena was a definite plus. This was especially true since I was in town to see the Killers.

The Hotel Experience

From the moment I entered Malmaison Manchester, I was greeted with impeccable service and a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel blends modern comforts with a touch of luxury, evident in its stylish decor and well-appointed rooms. My room offered views of the canal and part of the city skyline. The one element of the room that did give some concern was the pillar in the middle of the room. With the curtains closed the room was pitch black. To avoid the middle of the night fumbling for lights, the curtains were left slightly open. This was to avoid even worse, walking into the pillar. The curtains were left slightly open to let some light in.

Normally, I book hotels directly. For this trip, I decided to book Malmaison Manchester through British Airways. I wanted to earn extra Avios points for our long-haul flight savings. The rate was the same as booking directly, and the convenience of a pre-paid room made check-in a breeze. I opted for a standard room. We didn’t plan to spend much time in the hotel. It exceeded my expectations with its spaciousness, elegant decor, and modern amenities. Booking through British Airways added significant value to our trip, combining convenience, rewards, and an excellent stay at Malmaison Manchester.

The bathroom, though compact, was tastefully decorated with a chic, modern design. The amenities were plentiful, and the lotions and potions had delightful fragrances that smelled good enough to eat! One thing we did notice was an occasional musty smell in the bathroom. This was possibly due to the age of the building. It was reminiscent of a busy hairdresser’s on a Saturday afternoon. The extractor fan wasn’t the strongest. However, it didn’t take long for the steam to clear. This ensured a comfortable and pleasant experience overall.

What I love about the Malmaison Hotel group is their unique approach to consistency and individuality. Each property maintains the same high standards and core offerings. They are thoughtfully decorated and themed to reflect the character and culture of their respective locations. This blend of reliability and local charm makes every stay at a Malmaison hotel both familiar and distinctively memorable.

Dining at Tast Cuina Catalana by Paco Pérez

One of the highlights of my trip was dining at Tast Cuina Catalana, a short walk from Malmaison. Renowned chef Paco Pérez brings a taste of Catalonia to Manchester. His exquisite menu offers an array of traditional dishes with a modern twist. The restaurant’s ambience was warm and inviting, making it a perfect dining spot after a day of exploring.

The concept at Tast Cuina Catalana is to select a couple of small bites and Tastets. Then you share a rice dish. However, we opted to enjoy several bites and Tastets, skipping the rice to savour more of the smaller portions. This approach allowed us to experience a wider variety of flavours and dishes.

Typically, I’m happy to share my food, but there is one dish I never share—Patatas Bravas. They are my absolute favourite, and if I’m served just those when dining out, I would be perfectly content! The crispy potatoes with their spicy, tangy sauce were a highlight of the meal. The culinary experience at Tast Cuina Catalana was nothing short of spectacular. It offered a delightful blend of traditional and contemporary Catalan cuisine. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Manchester for an unforgettable dining experience.

Exploring Manchester

After recovering from our walk back from seeing The Killers, our feet were ready. We were ready to take on the streets of Manchester. On our last visit to the city, we enjoyed breakfast at The Blues Kitchen. We set off with that in mind. However, just a couple of blocks away, a vibrant flower arrangement around a door caught my eye. It turned out to be Albert Schloss. How could we resist? It was still quiet when we arrived, offering a cosy atmosphere that became livelier as we lingered. The breakfast was delicious and perfectly set us up for the rest of the day.

Manchester Art Gallery

One of the highlights of our day was a visit to the Manchester Art Gallery. Entry is free, though donations are welcome and help support the museum. Two exhibits immediately captured my attention: “Unpicking Couture” and “Rethinking the Grand Tour.” Both offered fascinating insights and thought-provoking displays, making our visit truly memorable. The art gallery is a must-visit for anyone interested in art, fashion, and history. It offers a diverse range of exhibits that cater to all tastes.

Exploring Manchester

Malmaison Manchester serves as an excellent base for exploring the vibrant city. During my stay, I wandered through the bustling streets of the Northern Quarter. I discovered independent shops, street art, and trendy cafes. If you are interested in Manchester’s rich industrial history, you will find the Science and Industry Museum nearby. It is just a short walk or tram ride away. Of course, I couldn’t resist the allure of the department stores. I indulged in a cheeky cocktail {or two} at Selfridges. The combination of historical attractions, shopping, and dining makes Manchester a city that is both dynamic and captivating.

Final Thoughts

My stay at Malmaison Manchester was nothing short of exceptional. The hotel’s central location, combined with its luxurious amenities and attentive service, made it the perfect choice for my visit. Whether you’re here to catch a concert or explore the city’s cultural offerings, Malmaison Manchester offers an experience that is memorable. It is also convenient. You can also simply relax and unwind here.
