Belfast: A Fusion Of History, Culture, And Natural Beauty
If you’re seeking a city that seamlessly intertwines history, culture, and natural allure, then Belfast is the perfect destination. Belfast is home to renowned landmarks, including local historical bars like Robinsons and Crown Bar. There is a thriving food scene with a range of restaurants to tantalise your taste pubs. Great Victoria Street has the famous Europa Hotel; which holds the unfortunate distinction of being bombed 36 times. This vibrant city offers an array of experiences to suit every traveller’s interests. These range from the globally acclaimed Titanic Exhibition to leisurely walks along the Lagan River.
Growing up in Belfast, my experiences were often a mix of intimidation, excitement, and intrigue. The cityscape, {for a young child} was dominated by towering buildings that seemed to reach for the sky. As for the streets they were always bustling with activity. At times, the urban environment could feel overwhelming. It could even be a bit scary, especially for a country kid like me who lived 35 miles away in the peaceful countryside. Now when I return to those narrow streets that scared me, welcome me. Normally when I return home, we don’t always have time to visit Belfast. However, this time I’m spending a bit more time in the city. {Mainly due to my mum spending time in the hospital}. So outside of the hospital visiting hours, I’m taking the opportunity to rediscover Belfast! Also a massive shoutout to the catering at the Matter Hospital. My dad and I spent all day at the hospital. We enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast and lunch. The meals were reasonably priced and packed with plenty of flavours!
The Titanic Exhibition
No visit to Belfast is complete without immersing yourself in the captivating narrative of the Titanic Exhibition. Having visited the Titanic experience at the Luxor Hotel, in Las Vegas, it was time. The next stop was to visit Titanic Belfast, the home of her construction. When you step into the museum, you are transported back to the early 20th century. The RMS Titanic was constructed in the city’s shipyards.

Delve into the story of this iconic vessel, from its inception to its tragic demise. Gain insight into the lives of its passengers. Marvel at the engineering feats behind its creation. Reflect on the events leading to its fateful sinking. The Titanic Exhibition offers a moving and enlightening experience, leaving visitors with a profound appreciation for the Titanic’s enduring legacy. Adjacent to the museum is the Titanic Hotel, a testament to Belfast’s rich maritime heritage. Savouring a glass of champagne in the hotel’s opulent Drawing Room, I pondered the enduring fascination with the Titanic. I wondered if it was fueled solely by James Cameron’s cinematic masterpiece. Or was it driven by a deeper, innate human curiosity?

Walking Along the Lagan
When making my way to the Titanic Exhibition, I took a stroll along the scenic banks of the Lagan River. Meandering through Belfast’s heart, the river offers picturesque vistas and a tranquil ambience. En route, you’ll encounter some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Waterfront Hall and the Big Fish sculpture. The Lagan Towpath is a favoured route for joggers and cyclists, ensuring plenty of company as you meander. Whether seeking a serene retreat, a walk along the Lagan is a quintessential Belfast experience. It also offers a chance to immerse in local life.

City Hall
A visit to Belfast would be incomplete without admiring its majestic City Hall. Nestled in Donegall Square, this grand edifice stands as a testament to the city’s rich heritage and architectural splendour. Unfortunately, on this occasion, I didn’t have time to embark on a guided tour. I couldn’t discover the intricacies of its design. So I only got to admire the building under a somewhat grey sky. During the tour, you can marvel at its stained glass windows, and uncover its political significance. If fortune favours you, catch a glimpse of one of the many events hosted on its grounds. These range from concerts to bustling markets. Be sure to capture a snapshot in front of the iconic Belfast City Hall sign. This will commemorate your visit to this historic landmark.

Dining at Novelli
Retreating to Novelli for dinner was the perfect culmination of my day in Belfast. I stepped into the elegant ambience of the restaurant. I was greeted by the tantalising aroma of exquisite dishes being prepared in the kitchen. Settling into my seat, I perused the menu, eager to embark on a culinary journey. My evening began with a sip of a Dark’n Stormy cocktail. The cocktail was expertly crafted. It balanced the richness of Gosling’s Black Seal 151 Proof with the zing of ginger beer. It also included a splash of lime. Each sip sent a wave of warmth through me, transporting me back to my time in Bermuda.

The main course arrived, presenting a feast for the senses. The rump steak, cooked to perfection, boasted a charred exterior giving way to succulent, melt-in-your-mouth meat. Each bite was a symphony of flavours, a testament to the chef’s meticulous attention to detail and culinary expertise. I savoured the last spoonful of salted caramel and whiskey ice cream. I was transported to a realm of pure bliss. The creamy sweetness of the ice cream mingled harmoniously with the smoky undertones of whiskey. This combination left a lingering taste of indulgence on my palate. It was then time to retreat to my room for a blissful sleep.
